Shortlist of BSF bidders announced

Ealing Council has selected three private sector organisations to go to the next stage of tendering for the Council’s £300 million Building Schools for the Future programme.

Balfour Beatty Education, Equitix Learning and QED Education Environments will now enter into a ‘competitive dialogue’ with the Council and schools to develop a greater understanding of how they would carry out the programme of work.

Ealing’s BSF programme aims to transform the borough’s secondary and special schools by rebuilding or refurbishing 14 schools and building a new school in the north of the borough.

Two of the shortlisted bidders will progress to the next phase of tendering in October 2009, producing plans for two schools, Cardinal Wiseman and Dormers Wells. The selected contractor is expected to be confirmed in April 2010.

Executive Director for Children and Adults, David Archibald, congratulated the three shortlisted companies and said: "We are pleased to have received applications from these three very strong consortia. We welcome their enthusiasm for our ambitious and exciting plans and look forward to working with them over the coming months."

Work on the first two schools is expected to begin in October 2010, with upgrades at other schools to commence between 2011-2013. Work is expected to be complete by 2015.
